Turner dubbed a sands and skies here ‘the loveliest in Europe’. Nowadays the town is a favourite with artists and is packaged full of cafes and retro shops.

The Shell Grotto, Turner Contemporary gallery and of course, Dreamland, are all value a visit.

With several beaches to select from, rides during Adventure Island, and lots of places to eat and splash Southend is a good choice if you’re looking for a normal day out during a seaside.

Travel time: Car – 1.5 hrs. Train – 50 mins.

Head south from holiday review Dymchurch and discover this pleasing sandy beach. On a still day we can mark copiousness of wildlife here, such as seals and oyster catchers.

Nearby Dungeness with a beacon and bird haven is value a revisit and there’s a little sight that we can take along a seashore to strech it.
