The debate organisation that brought a 22 year-old American student
to North Korea where he was after incarcerated and sent home over a
year after in a coma advertises the nation as “probably one
of a safest countries on Earth to visit.”

The group, Young Pioneer Tours, does not discuss a State Department’s
clever warnings about a risk of apprehension or “unduly harsh
sentences for actions that would not be deliberate crimes in the
United States.”

Instead, a Young Pioneer Tours’ North Korea FAQ territory begins
with this:

How protected is it?

Extremely safe! Despite what we might hear, North Korea is
substantially one of a safest places on Earth to visit. Tourism is
really welcomed in North Korea, so tourists are loving and
good taken caring of. We have never felt questionable or threatened
during any time. In fact, North Korean’s are super accessible and
accommodating, if we let them into your world. Even during
moving domestic moments tourism to a DPRK is never
affected.

Their website, that uses comrade imagery while charity tours
of North Korea for around 1,000 euros, generally promises a safe,
good time with tours around North Korea’s inner holidays and
customs.

But one North Korean tradition is vital underneath wartime law, and the
US has no grave tactful attribute or consulate in the
nation to disciple for US travelers.

Otto Warmbier, condemned to 15 years of tough labor for
“anti-state” crimes that amounted to perplexing to take a poster
from a hotel, schooled this doctrine a tough way. While thousands
transport to North Korea any year and lapse safely, Warmbier’s
story shows there’s a terrible cost to be paid for some.

As a Washington Post’s Anna
Fitfield notes, Koryo Tours, another debate group, does mention
a risks and links to transport advice.
